Viola Longhorn Tennis Team Competes at State Tournament
The Viola Longhorn Tennis Team made a strong appearance at the state tournament in Fort Smith on Monday, October 14th, sending five players to represent the school.
In the opening round the team suffered two losses— Piper Swindle to Ava Goodwin of Parker’s Chapel and Meredith Deane to Megan Richardson of Tuckerman.
However, three Longhorns advanced to the quarterfinals: Freshman Aden Kiefer, who won his first match against Kaleb Griffis from Hampton, and our girls doubles team with Sophomore Taylor Richardson and Freshman Abby Hutson, who overcame Grace Dickinson and Brynn Morgan from Ozark Catholic.
In the quarterfinals, Kiefer battled hard against a tough opponent in James Harbauch of Ozark Catholic. Meanwhile, Richardson and Hutson lost to the tournament runner up, Malorie Berry and Brooklyn Booth from Riverside.
This is the first year that Longhorns moved beyond the first round of the tournament. Their performance was a testament to their hard work and potential. The team is already looking forward to growing even stronger next season.
