Suprise Robot Stabby

Day 3 of camp is always scheduled as a work and practice day for students. Tuesday, they were given a series of 3d printed parts that were designed entirely by our student mentors last week. Students handled the parts, discussed them with their mentors and fellow campers, and then selected which part they wanted to use on their robot.

Today, students were given their chosen 3d printed part along with the following:

  • 2 pieces of construction paper

  • 2 thumb tacks

  • 2 bambo skewers

  • 6 zip ties

  • 1 ft of painters tape

The competition for the rest of the week centers around the goal of set your robot in the arena and allow it to run a pre-programmed routine. This routine should designed to hunt down the opponent and pop its balloon. The build rules are simple, everything has to be attached to the robot, not the balloon and the balloon must be removeable without untaping any other item.

The pre-programmed "Demo" bot was available as an opponent in practice matches today. At first, students were struggling to make contact with Demo Bot. By the end of the day, Demo Bot was losing 4 out of every 5 test matches. Great progress guys!

Tune into tomorrow's livestream for Qualification Matches starting at 10 AM. Between rounds, we will interview each student about their robot, their strategies, and what they are learning at camp. Qualification Matches will determine the seeding for a double elimination tournament that will take place on Friday.
